Mr. Bernd Wundes holds a Master Degree (Dipl. -Ing. TU) in Mechanical Engineering of the University of Hannover, Germany, and has 30 years of professional experience in the field of
drilling and coring down to 5000 m. He is an authority in the field of wireline coring and scientific and research drilling for e.g. volcanic, earthquake and geothermal and has great
experience in oil- and gas applications. From 1975 to 1980, as scientific assistant with the Institute of Deep Drilling Technology at
Technical University of Clausthal-Zellerfeld, Germany, Mr. Wundes held lectures on shallow well drilling and diamond coring, was project leader and responsible for research on drilling
and coring systems for long horizontal exploration in underground coal mines and installed a process-computer for research on enhanced and tertiary oil and gas recovery. He has in-depth
knowledge of issues regarding the mechanical properties and behaviour of wireline drillstrings. He acted as manager of a drilling company for solid mineral deposits, esp. coal,
with extensive work within the field of research drilling for nuclear waste repositories. He has taken part in and delivered equipment for projects for International Continental
Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP http://icdp.gfz-potsdam.de ) managed by GFZ (GeoForschungsZentrum Potsdam http://www.gfz-potsdam.de ), the German Technical
Cooperation Agency (GTZ http://www.gtz.de ), Deutsche Montan Technologie (DMT http://www.dmt.de ), other national and international institutions and private clients. He
performed talks and consulting services e.g. in Germany, Japan, China and Iceland. His activities comprised the assessment, analysis and interpretation of data for planning and
implementation of R&D and preparation of innovative drilling projects. Since April 2004 he is independent consultant with main activities concerning Herrenknecht Vertical GmbH (www.vertical-herrenknecht.de) a manufacturer and deliverer for drilling rigs
and equipment. More than six rigs of 350 and 250 to hookload have been ordered; four units have been delivered. Amongst others further customers are DHSS (www.dh-shaftsinking.com) for 45 km of
freezehole drilling in Russia, Helmholtz Zentrum München - ehem. gsf – (www.helmholtzmuenchen.de) for drilling projects on repository mine ASSE and
RAG-DSK (www.rag.de), the German coal mining group.
